A Parking Management System using Service Science, Management and EngineeringA Parking Management System using Service Science, Management and Enginee

Parking facilities are vital for most organization that encourages business grown. Though this industry is undergoing a revolution, applying new technologies such as Service Science Management and Engineering (SSME) to achieving better performance and customer satisfaction, is still lagging especially in Malaysia. Based on this concern, this study was undertaken with the purpose to unfold and understand the need for a better and efficient system for parking management.

The focus of this research is incorporating the SSME concept by integrating important components of business, management and technologies, in order to provide quality parking services for customers and thereby improve the management of parking systems.

In a nutshell, the primary goal of this study is to improve the current car parking service system and this is carried out through service innovation which is inherently multidisciplinary. This study used a various data collection such as questionnaire and survey to find out the problems faced by parking patrons. Open-ended questions in the last part of the survey are used to find out the extent of user knowledge on SSME concepts and to capture user requirements to be used in the development of an efficient Parking System (IPS). IPS not only has elements from advanced parking information systems but it incorporates essential elements of SSME approach.

The use of in-surface sensors, CCTVs and interactive signboards at the parking entrance help to alleviate the problems faced by parking users. The evaluation findings derived through a second survey showed beyond doubt that the proposed system has excellent advantages over the existing manual system. Future research should consider allowing the system to be web based where parking bay bookings could be made from handheld devices, home PCs and notebooks.
